The invention relates to a depilating apparatus for removing hair from the human body, having a housing (2) which the user can hold in one hand, having a rotary cylinder (4) which is driven by a motor (103) and has clamping elements (42, 43, 105, 106), and having an actuating element (109, 110) for actuating the clamping elements (42, 43, 105, 106) coupled to said actuating element, at least one actuating element (109, 110) being actuable directly or indirectly via a pressure element (147) assigned thereto. The relative angular position of at least one pressure element (147) and/or control element (145) for adjusting the actuating element (109, 110) in the closing direction of the clamping elements (42, 43 or 105, 106) is variable relative to a fixed axis x-y of the apparatus 1.
