The device is of the type comprising two electrodes and a clamp, which are capable of gripping the cable in two perpendicular directions and whose faces in contact with the cable define, between them, the shape which, after fusion of the wires, those portions of the cable in which the wires are to be fused together are to acquire. According to the invention, the jaws (16a) of the clamp (16) each have one end (16b) having a thickness approximately equal to that which, after fusion of the copper wires, those portions of the cable (3) in which the wires are to be fused together are to have and the electrodes (13) have a cross-section such that it enables them to grip and hold tightly between them both the cable (3) and the said ends (16b) of the jaws (16a) of the clamp (16).
