Zusammenfassung:	A process is described for explosion-proof drying of previously dewatered sewage sludges or similar starting materials containing combustible constituents, the drying plant preferably comprising indirectly heated driers and a pneumatic and/or mechanical dry goods transport having a connected dry goods storage container. According to the invention, the pneumatic transport is to take place using an inert gas and/or the mechanical transport is to take place in an inert gas atmosphere and the inert gas is then to be passed into the sewage sludge receiving container and/or the drier.
