Beim neuen Verfahren erfolgt die Hydrierung der Doppelbindungen in einem ungesättigten primären Fettamin in der Weise, daß man das ungesättigte primäre Fettamin in flüssiger Phase und in Gegenwart von 0,1 bis 10 Gew.-% Nickel- oder Kobalt-Katalysator mit Wasserstoff bei einer Temperatur von 80 bis 160 °C und einem Druck von 1 bis 40 bar umsetzt. Wenn das zu hydrierende Fettamin Ammoniak enthält, wird es vor dem Hydriervorgang weitgehend entfernt.
