Zusammenfassung: | A crankshaft angular position detecting apparatus for detecting the angular position of the crankshaft (12) of an internal combustion engine (10). The crankshaft (12) drives a timing wheel (14) which has a plurality of circumferentially spaced slots (20,22-36) located along its outer periphery. Two angularly spaced sensors (16,18) are located adjacent the slots (20,22-36). The sensors (16,18) develop voltage pulses as the slots (20,22-36) move past the sensors (16,18). Two phase-displaced pulse trains (A,B) are developed, one by each sensor, as the wheel (14) rotates. The pattern of slots (20,22-36) and the angular spacing of the sensors (16,18) is such that a varying number of pulses of one pulse train (B) occurs between consecutively occurring pulses of the other pulse train (A). The varying number of pulses provide different patterns and each pattern is indicative of a crankshaft position. The timing wheel (14) is secured to the engine crankshaft (12) and is located inside of the engine (10). |
