Zusammenfassung:	An apparatus and method in which light from a source (13) is kept within a transparent moving roadway (7) and a tyre tread is pressed onto one surface of the roadway (7) so that the ground contact patch of the tyre may be observed from the opposite side, and the ground contact area and the non-ground contact area of the tyre tread are distinguished clearly. The dynamic behaviour of the ground contact patch of the rotating tyre is observed by means of a camera unit (27).
