Zusammenfassung:	A method for toxic agent reduction in the passenger compartment of a motor vehicle and a device for carrying out the method are proposed. When activating the pump motor (32) of a washing system, the fresh air intake into the passenger compartment of the motor vehicle is interrupted for a predeterminable time due to the influencing of the blower (18) and/or an air flap (15). Additives which are dissolved in the windscreen washing agent thus no longer pass into the passenger compartment. By influencing the predeterminable time as a function of the driving speed of the motor vehicle, it is possible to adapt the duration of the interruption of the fresh air intake to the driving speed.
