Zusammenfassung:	Although the previously known processes for the preparation of styrene polymers by suspension polymerisation allow a certain amount of control of the particle size, the distribution curve is, however, always relatively broad, i.e. the proportion of oversize and/or undersize particles is still too high. It is proposed to add from 50 to 500 ppm, based on the aqueous phase, of carbonates or bicarbonates to the polymerisation mixture. The process gives non-expandable styrene polymers for hard processing or expandable styrene polymers for the production of foams, usually for packaging purposes.
