Zusammenfassung: | Known processes for preparing cholestyramine involve chloromethylating and aminating unfunctionalized styrene/divinylbenzene beads in the presence of added halogenated hydrocarbon swelling solvent, typically ethylene dichloride. The use of such halogenated swelling solvent is disadvantageous because of toxicological implications. The present invention provides a process for preparing cholestyramine by chloromethylating and aminating unfunctionalized styrene/divinylbenzene copolymer beads, the chloromethylation and amination being conducted in the absence of added halogenated hydrocarbon swelling sovent. Furthermore, the cholestyramine produced by the process of the invention has improved palatability when compared with cholestyramine produced by known processes. |
