Zusammenfassung:	A process for the purification of an aqueous solution of an alkali metal chloride by contacting the solution with an ion-exchange material and thereafter contacting the ion-exchange with a liquid medium to regenerate the ion-exchange material, in which the process is effected in an apparatus which comprises at least a first vessel and at least a second vessel which are operatively connected so that ion-exchange material may flow through and be transferred from the second vessel to the first vessel, and in which the process comprises effecting contact between ion-exchange material and the liquid medium in the first vessel, effecting contact between ion-exchage material and the aqueous alkali metal chloride solution in the second vessel, and transferring ion-exchange material from the first vessel to the second vessel and from the second vessel to the first vessel.
