IMIDAZOLYL THIENO-BENZOTHIEPIN DERIVATIVES AND PROCESSES FOR THE PREPARATION THEREOF

Imidazolyl thieno-benzothiepin derivatives of the general formula I in which R is a hydrogen or a chlorine atom, and acid addition salts thereof with pharmaceutically acceptable inorganic and organic acids show in experiments in vitro and in vivo remarkable antimycotic properties and therefore allow one to expect a potential for use in human and veterinary therapy for the treatment of dermal and vaginal mycoses. The subject compounds can be prepared by reacting 4,9-dihydro-thieno(2,3-c)-2-benzothiepin-4-ol or its 6-chloro derivative with imidazole or a reactive derivative thereof, eg 1,1 min -carbonyldiimidazole or 1,1 min -thionyldiimidazole, or by converting the respective thieno-benzothiepin-4-ol compound first into its alkane- or arenesulphonate ester and subsequent reaction with imidazole.
