Process for the manufacture of (IR,CIS)-4-acetyl-6,6-dimethyl-3-oxa-bicyclo(3.1.0)hex-2-one

(IR, Cis)-4-acetyl-6,6-dimethyl-3-oxabicyclo(3.1.0)hex-2-one, useful in the synthesis of pyrethroids, is made by halogenating (IR, Cis)-4, 7, 7-trimethyl-3-oxabicyclo(4.1.0)hept-4-ene-2-one and hydrolysing the product.
