Polygon cross section seed for directional solidification

In the directional solidification of single crystal castings the seed crystal (90) is specially fit within the starter section (92) of the mold (93) to minimize angular rotation to less than 0.6 degrees. Preferably the seed (90) is polygon shaped in cross section and has planar sides.
