Production of L-phenylalanine

A method for producing L-phenylalanine by reacting trans-cinnamic acid with ammonium ions in the presence of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase and recovering the L-phenylalanine, wherein said reaction is performed at a temperature below about 30 DEG C.
