Zusammenfassung: | Two-stage catalytic converters for automobile exhaust gas treatment are known. Such a converter has a housing which contains a reducing catalyst in an upstream portion and an oxidising catalyst in a downstream portion. It is desirable to provide a converter housing which can have a wider variety of applications than in known converters, and also a housing which is more durable and less likely to fail under stress. The converter housing (14) has an upstream reducing catalyst (48) and a downstream oxidising catalyst (50) and between them a connecting space surrounded by a manifold (52) which has upper and lower halves each having a pair of oppositely directed flanges (64, 65) which fit the interior of the housing (14). Between the flanges is an inwardly recessed portion (60) through which air can be introduced to the connecting space by way of holes (82). |
