METHOD AND DEVICE FOR RECOGNIZING PLANAR PATTERNS ON VARIOUS OBJECTS

A method and device are proposed for recognising planar patterns (73) on various objects (72), such as newspapers, by means of optical sensors (74), in which the objects (72) are characterised by differences in the actual planar pattern, such as the newspaper title. In accordance with the invention, a characteristic optical value of the actual planar pattern is recorded by lines in at least one preferred direction of the object (72) and this is compared line by line with corresponding stored values for all previously recorded specified patterns for all objects. The result of the comparison is then summed. The object (72) which, in comparison with the stored values, exhibits the least deviation in the sum obtained from the corresponding value for the pattern concerned is recognised as correct (Figure 1).
