Zusammenfassung:	A system for use in a gasoline station or the like includes a centrally located terminal apparatus (21) which monitors at least one, and preferably, a plurality of fuel dispensers (19) for selective retrieval of fuel sales information. The central terminal apparatus communicates with the attendant on duty permitting the attendant to selectively enable any one of the island pumps. A remote customer-controlled console (23) located at a gasoline dispensing island (13, 15, 17) communicates with the central terminal in order to permit a customer to provide "collateral" by way of credit card to instruct enablement of the selected pump by the customer at a location remote from the central terminal apparatus. A remote customer-controlled console includes a credit card reader (13) which obtains credit card information in order to verify the credit status of the card the customer is using for collateral. A keyboard (39) and display device are included on the customer console for permitting the customer to select an individual pump for enablement.
