A method of monitoring the final filling level during the filling of moulds (1), in particular sand moulds, with molten metal, which moulds have a poor electrical conductivity, characterized by the following features : a) an approximately funnel-shaped measuring attachment (2) is positioned on to the actual funnel tube (4) of the mould (1) prior to the commencement of the filling operation ; b) a change of the mutual induction of the coils (24, 25) included in the measuring attachment caused by the rising molten metal, is measured ; c) the supply of molten metal is stopped when a threshold value has been reached.
