A cellulose production process with separation of hemicellulose and lignin by processing comminuted plant biomass with pure water in the fluid state within a pressure vessel at temperatures of 140 to 240 degrees C and pressures from 3.6 to 100 bar, wherein the biomass is permeated with a water dwell period of 10 to 200 seconds and a biomass dwell period of 100 to 2 000 seconds, and a weight ratio between biomass and water of 1:1 to 1:10 is maintained.
