A magnetic recording medium comprising a non-magnetic base and, applied thereto, at least one firmly adhering magnetic layer which is based on an anisotropic magnetic material finely dispersed in an organic polymer binder and conventional additives, wherein the magnetic layer additionally contains from 0.5 to 20% by weight, based on the amount of magnetic material, of an N-vinylpyrrolidone homopolymer or copolymer having a molecular weight of less than 60 000.
