The present invention provides amidines, guanidines, pseudoureas, pseudothioureas, imidates and thioimidates derived from 9-aminodeoxyclavulanic acid which has the formula: These dervatives are useful beta -lactamase inhibitors and antibacterial agents. Their preparation and use are described.
