Zusammenfassung:	(Poly)alkylene glycol monoalkyl ethers are prepared by reacting an olefin with a (poly)alkylene glycol at a temperature of from 20 DEG C to 250 DEG C in the presence of an acid catalyst and, as polar solvent, sulphur dioxide. The use of sulphur dioxide improves the conversion of the olefin and enhances the selectivity to the (poly)alkylene glycol monoalkyl ether.
