Zusammenfassung:Process for the manufacture, by a sol-gel route and compression with heating, of a composite material consisting of a fibrous reinforcement and of a vitro-ceramic or ceramic matrix based on silica. The process of the invention is characterised in that the premature crystallisation of the matrix originating from the sol is delayed by the addition of a crystallisation-retarding agent to the sol. This process makes it possible to obtain well-densified composite materials which have a residual porosity of less than 10%, this being done without adding new nucleating agents.
