Zusammenfassung:Antiallergic compsns. contains a cpd. of formula (I) and a suitable pharmaceutical vehicle (where X = -COOM or -CONR1R2, M = a cation, 1-6C alkyl or H, R1, R2 independently = H, 1-6C alkyl or 1-7C acyl). Specifically claimed are compsns. where (I) is 5-acetylsalicylic acid or its sodium, potassium, ammonium or calcium salts. The compsns. are inhibitors of allergic reactions associated with reaginic antibodies, of the type responsible for asthma, by suppression of anaphylactic mediator release. (I) are used for the prophylactic or therapeutic treatment of allergic states such as asthma, hay fever (allergic rhinitis), conjunctivitis, urticaria and eczema.
