3-Aryl-5-isothiazole derivatives of formula (I) where Ar is pyridyl, thienyl or optionally substituted phenyl, X is amino, hydroxy, hydrogen, halogen or C1-4 alkylamino and pharmaceutically-acceptable salts and esters, are effective in lowering urate (uric acid) blood levels in mammals.
