1502884 Preparing pigments HOECHST AG 7 Aug 1975 [21 Aug 1974] 33013/75 Heading C4P The #-modification of copper phthalocyanine pigments is prepared by subjecting the #-form of a highly pure copper phthalocyanine (as defined) to mechanical fine dispersion together with a compound of the general formula Pc-Am wherein Pc is a phthalocyanine radical, A is -COOM or -SO 3 M wherein M is H, an alkali metal ion, a molar equivalent of an alkaline earth metal or an ammonium ion, or a carbamoyl, sulphamoyl, N- alkylcarbamoyl, containing 1-12 C atoms, N- alkylsulphamoyl containing 1-18 C atoms, N,N- dialkylsulphamoyl each alkyl moiety having 1-4 C atoms, N-(2-aminoethyl)-sulphamoyl, N-benzylsulphamoyl, N - phenylethylsulphamoyl, N - cyclohexylsulphamoyl, N - alkyl - N - cyclohexylsulphamoyl having 1-4 C atoms in the alkyl moiety, N-phenylsulphamoyl, or N-alkyl-N-phenylsulphamoyl having 1-4 C atoms in the alkyl moiety, carboalkoxy having 1-4 C atoms in the alkoxy group, sulphonic acid phenyl ester, sulphonic acid C 1 -C 4 alkyl ester or wherein R 1 is H, C 1 -C 18 alkyl, 2-aminoethyl, benzyl, phenylethyl, phenyl, C 1 -C 4 alkylphenyl, (C 1 -C 4 alkan)-oyl or benzoyl, R 2 is H or C 1 -C 4 alkyl, or (R 1 + R 2 ) is phthaloyl and m is 1 or 2, and when A is -SO 3 M, or m is an integer from 1-4 when A is an aforesaid sulphamoyl or sulphonic acid ester group, or m is an integer from 1-3 when A is -COOM or an aforesaid carbamoyl or carbalkoxy group or m is an integer from 1-6 when A is the aforesaid aminomethyl group. The amount of Pc-Am is 2-15% by weight of the pure- #-copper phthalocyanine. The mechanical fine dispersion may comprise grinding in an aqueous organic, e.g. aqueous C 1 -C 6 alkanol or organic grinding medium in a vibrating mill, bead mill or an attritor. The starting material may be α- modification and the phase rearrangement of the #-modification occurs during the mechanical fine dispersion. The pigments may be used to colour lacquers, paper, plastic and synthetic resins and fibres.
