The present invention relates to a device (1) for high energy- and/or fine milling of particles and a method for high energy- and/or fine milling of particles using a flowing milling body in a closed gas atmosphere. The device (1) comprises a milling container (2) which includes a closed housing (3) and a milling chamber (4) located in the housing (3) for receiving particles and a milling body. In the milling container (2), a rotor (6) is rotationally supported for accelerating the milling body during a milling process. The milling container (2) is formed in a cylindrical shape and extends along a horizontal longitudinal axis (5). The device (1) comprises a measuring device (12) for measuring the size of particles. The milling container (2) has one or more connection portions (10, 17, and 20) for connection with the measuring device (12). The measuring device (12) is connected to the milling container (2) so that the particles can be removed from the milling chamber (4) and measured during the milling process.
