A system (1) is disclosed for production of a sterilising solution, comprising an electrolytic cell (7) containing an anode compartment and a cathode compartment separated by a porous ion-exchange membrane, the system further comprising a ion-exchange water softener (10, 15) arranged to supply the electrolytic cell (7) with deionized water and a brine tank (19) arranged to supply the electrolytic cell (7) with a sodium chloride brine solution, the system (1) being arranged for conducting a regeneration of the water softener (10, 15) by use of a sodium chloride brine solution from the brine tank (19), wherein the system (1) comprises a positive displacement pump (21) controlled by a control unit of the system (1) to selectively supply a sodium chloride brine solution from the brine tank (19) to the electrolytic cell (7) and to the water softener (10, 15) for regeneration thereof.
