Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to an apparatus and to a process for heating a liquid medium, especially to a mash apparatus for beer production, comprising a vessel which has an inlet and an outlet for the liquid medium and comprising a heater to heat the liquid medium, comprising at least one inlet and at least one outlet for the heating medium. To improve the heat flows, the heater is configured such that the heating medium is conducted in the heater at least partly such that it flows substantially counter to a base flow generated at the heated surface in the vessel.
