Zusammenfassung:A system(l) for detecting an animal passing a defined area (2) in or opposite to a walk-through direction of the area, wherein the system is provided with at least one sensor (Sl) which is designed for determining a distance between the sensor and an exterior of an animal passing the area in or opposite to the walk -through direction and a signal processing unit (10) which is connected to the at least one sensor and which is designed for determining, at least on the basis of the course over time of the distance when an animal moves in the area measured with the at least one sensor whether an animal has passed the area.
