Zusammenfassung:	Apparatus and a method for forming a uniform film of plastic material, having good optical characteristics, on a substrate are disclosed. The plastic material is supplied to and maintained under pressure in a distribution channel and is fed from the distribution channel through a narrow slot to the substrate. A forming member subsequently forms the plastic material into a uniform film on the substrate. The level of the plastic material in front of the forming member is limited to a range of values based upon the thickness of the film being formed.
