A new overflow safety system for tanker vessels comprises a longitudinal main connection 18, side connections 19, which are connected at one end to the main connection 18 and at the other end to the hold sections 14 in the tanker vessel, valves 20 inserted into the side connections 19 directly at their ends for opening for a free flow of liquid chemicals and petroleum products from the hold sections 14 to the main connection 18 through the side connections 19, and a collecting tank 21 built into the tanker vessel 10 and connected to the main connection 18 for collecting liquid chemical and petroleum products from the main connection 18. Liquid chemicals and petroleum products, which overflow from the hold sections 14 in the vessel 10 are led from the load section e 14 through the side connections 19 and the main connection 18 to the collecting tank 21, so that uncontrolled outflow of the products from the hold sections 14 is prevented. The side 19 and main connections 18 are designed so that the generation of excess pressure in the hold sections 14 cannot occur in an overflow situation.
