An alkaline galvanic cell, e.g. a Mn-Zn cell, comprising two negative electrodes 2 separated from a common positive electrode 9 by diaphragms 8, has two plastics envelopes 1 with the portions 3 adjoining the negative electrodes 2 being semicylindrical, and the cell is provided with clamping means for holding the envelopes together. The envelopes may be provided with annular grooves 4 for accommodating straps for clamping them together. The envelopes can also be clamped together by means of a surrounding paper sheath.
