Zusammenfassung: | In a fabric having a zone of greater shrinkage when wet than the body of the fabric, for example the decorative ends or the selvedges of a terry towel, a spiral yarn having a removable core is used to provide extra length in the more shrinkable zone and thereby prevent puckering of the fabric. Examples are given of plied or cabled cotton yarn spiralled round a core or raw silk, which is removed by washing the fabric in sodium hydroxide solution; in the case of cabled yarn, the cabling twist is in the same direction as the plying twist, and is removed by the spirally operation to leave the plies lying side by side in the fabric when the silk is washed out. Other core yarns mentioned include wool, protein fibre, viscose, alginate, cellulose acetate, and carboxymethyl cellulose; the permanent yarn may be viscose, cellulose acetate, nylon, or polyester. |
