The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for testing and maintaining a switching centre in a telecommunications network and the lines and appliances connected thereto, whereby control is carried out by means of a testing appliance provided therefor. Said appliance is connected to any digital subscriber connection. As a result, the field of application of the testing system is tremendously enlarged, novel testing methods are introduced in a simple manner, extensive tests are carried out with one testing appliance only and data is transmitted in a quick and secure manner.
