Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:The invention comprises a product forming in aqueous solution on tribasic dissociation an anion of the formula and three cations of which two have the formulae [-HgCH2CH2OR11]+ and [-Hg-R1]+ wherein each of R1 and R11 represents an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, for example methyl, ethyl, n-propyl or isopropyl radicals. The third cation is preferably hydrogen, an alkali or alkaline earth metal, for example sodium, potassium, calcium or magnesium, ammonium or organic amine cation, the amine preferably being water-soluble, for example methylamine, di- or tri-methylamine, ethylamine, mono-, di- or tri-ethanolamine, a propanolamine or morpholine. The products may be prepared by reacting molar proportions of citric acid, a compound of the general formula R1HgX and a compound of the general formula R11OCH2CH2HgX, wherein R1 and R11 are as above and X represents a hydroxyl group or the residue of an acid capable of being replaced by citric acid under the reaction conditions. The reaction may be carried out either in one stage by mixing equimolar proportions of the three reactants or in two stages by reacting the citric acid with one mercury containing compound to give a reaction product which is reacted with the other mercury containing compound. The reaction is preferably effected in aqueous solution and subsequently the pH of the solution may be adjusted to the physiologically advantageous value of between 6 and 7 by the addition of a base, for example alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide (preferably in aqueous solution or suspension), of ammonia or of an amine (preferably in aqueous solution). Examples describe the preparation of products wherein R1 is methyl, R11 is ethyl and the third cation is either hydrogen or hydrogen partially replaced by sodium. These citric acid derivatives may be used in fungicidal or bactericidal compositions in liquid form, the solvent being water or a mixture of water with water-soluble organic solvents, for example alcohols and ketones, or in pulverulent form distributed on inert solid carriers, for example talc or hydrated sodium alumino-silicate.ALSO:Fungicidal and bactericidal compositions contain organo-metallic compounds which form in aqueous solution on tribasic dissociation an anion of the formula and three cations of which two have the formulae [-HgCH2CH2OR11]+ and [-Hg-R1]+, wherein each of R1 and R11 represents an alkyl radical containing from 1 to
