Zusammenfassung:	A method for the treatment of a super absorbent polymer (SAP) to inhibit, prevent or reverse its swelling in aqueous media comprises treating the SAP with an aqueous solution of a mixture of a water-soluble compound of an alkali or alkaline earth metal with a water-soluble compound of at least one of aluminum, copper (II), iron (III) and zinc, said solution having a pH in the range of 3-8.
