Zusammenfassung: | Ammonium nitrate of reduced tendency to caking and setting on storage consisting of discrete ammonium nitrate particles carrying on their surfaces a deposit of a salt, soluble in a saturated aqueous ammonium nitrate solution at 20 DEG C., of at least one compound definable as a condensation product of 1 mol. of formaldehyde and 2 mols. of an unsubstituted naphthalene monosulphonic acid. From 0.01 per cent, preferably from 0.025-0.1 per cent, of e.g., the sodium salt of the a, a1-, b , b 1-, or a, b 1 - disulphonic acid of dinaphthyl methane, will cause ammonium nitrate IV to crystallize as (010) laths, plates or sales instead of (110) prisms or needles. The particles may be obtained by crystallizing ammonium nitrate e.g., by graining or spraying, from a solution or melt containing the salt, or an aqueous solution of the salt may be sprayed on to ammonium nitrate particles. The particles should be continuously agitated during drying and cooling until their temperature falls below 32.3 DEG C. |
