An organic full color light emitting diode array including a plurality of spaced apart, electrically conductive strips (101) formed on a semiconductor substrate (100), a plurality of cavities (112, 113, 114) defined on top of the strips (101) and three electroluminescent media (202, 203, 204) designed to emit three different hues deposited, along with light transmissive electrical conductors (202A, 203A, 204A), in the cavities (112, 113, 114). A transparent dielectric material (106, 108, 110) is formed to seal each of the cavities (112, 113, 114). The semiconductor substrate (100) is, for example, a CMOS substrate and drivers (225) for the diode array are formed in the substrate (100).
