A superconducting device, such as a superconducting rotor (10) for a generator or motor or a superconducting magnet for a magnetic resonance imaging machine, etc. A vacuum enclosure (14) surrounds and is spaced apart from a superconductive coil (12). Apparatus supports the coil in the enclosure during operation of the device, such apparatus including a first thermally insulative honeycomb assemblage (18) positioned between the coil (12) and the enclosure (14). In a first preferred construction, the first honeycomb assemblage (18) is positioned between and connected to the coil (12) and a thermal shield (24), and a second honeycomb assemblage (26) is positioned between and connected to the shield (24) and the enclosure (14). In a second preferred construction, the second honeycomb assemblage is replaced with a first suspension strap.
