Zusammenfassung:	A steerable obturator (14), comprising a flexible body (20) having a proximal end and a tapered distal tip (26), and a deflecting means (22) comprising a mechanism mounted to the flexible body (20) for laterally deflecting at least a distal portion of the flexible body (20), wherein the distal steerable portion of the obturator (14) is capable of deflecting a surrounding catheter sheath (16) so that the deflecting mechanism (22) of the obturator (14) is capable of inducing deflections in the catheter sheath (16).
