An electrolyte-activated battery (1), particularly for generating electric energy for the propulsion of underwater systems, and presenting a reservoir (8), an electrochemical cell (7), and a system (9) for forming and circulating the electrolyte (E) between the reservoir (8) and the electrochemical cell (7); the electrolyte forming and circulating system (9) presenting an inlet conduit (20) communicating with the outside environment, a circulating pump (10), a device (11, 12, 183, 199) for regulating the temperature of the electrolyte (E) at the inlet of the electrochemical cell (7), and a gas separator (13) located at the outlet of the cell (7) and presenting a liquid phase outlet (14) connectable to the circulating pump (10), and a gaseous phase outlet (15) connected to an outlet conduit (21); the inlet and outlet conduits (20, 21) presenting respective closure members (25, 26) facing and rigidly connected to each other so that they are subjected to the same but opposite hydrostatic pressures, and which are movable between a closed position and an open position wherein they are housed inside the respective conduits (20, 21).
