Zusammenfassung:A torque distributing drive in which the torque in each of a pair of input shafts (1, 7) is divided between both of a pair of output shafts (13, 14), the arrangement giving a fixed ratio between the speeds of the pair of output shafts (13, 14). The drive is particularly suited as reduction gearing for driving a twin screw extruding machine by a pair of motors, each output shaft (13, 14) receiving torque from each input shaft (1, 7) by a respective pair of intermediate gears (3, 5; 9, 12) disposed parallel to the output shafts and subtending an angle with their axes of at least 120 DEG . Advantages of such a drive compared with drives utilising a single motor include the reduction of bending stresses and bearing loads, reduced inertia of the drive and the possibility of adjustment of the angular relationship of the output shafts (13, 14) by axial movement of the input shafts (1, 7) in an arrangement using helical gearing. Cooling fluid may be supplied to an extruder through the input shafts.
