Press apparatus allows simultaneous placement of electrical components 42 on to a printed circuit board (PCB) 40. Verification of the proper placement of these components on the PCB is provided so that an operator can immediately replace any components having pins 46A which are bent, deformed, or the like. A press has movable platens which receive a product specific assembly used in the manufacture of a particular type of PCB. The assembly includes a bottom plate with a test block 82. The test block 82 has an electrically conductive portion 84 which serves to support the PCB receiving the electrical component and verifies the presence of each pin of the component in its respective via 50. An electrically insulating portion 86 contains test probes 98 having contact portions 108 spring biased into contact with the conductive portion 84. A pin 46 of the component 42 passing through the via 50 to the correct extent, depresses the contact portion 108 out of contact with the portion 84. The lower ends 96 of the probes 98 are connected by a wire 101 to one side of a battery 102, the other side of which is connected through an indicator to the portion 84. If a pin 46A is not present, or does not extend through the via a sufficient distance, then an indication is provided to the operator.
