Each of the containers has an aperture (16) formed therein for communication with the receptacle apertures. Seal members (18,20) also are provided, allowing the inside of each container to communicate with the outside only through the receptacle apertures and container apertures. A depressing unit (56) inserts the containers into the receptacle from one end, and vacuum source units (40,42,44,46), coupled to some of the receptacle apertures (22,24,26,28), provide progressive stages of evacuation to cool food within the containers.
