Video recorder noise suppression method

The noise suppression circuit is provided for video recorders in which the video signal output from a recording medium is processed as a luminance signal in a luminance channel (1) and as a chrominance signal in a chrominance channel for reproduction. A subtraction signal (7) is formed from the luminance signal in a branch of the circuit including a band pass (4,6) and a limiter (5). The subtraction signal (7) is fed to a subtraction stage (2) in the luminance channel (1) to suppress a frequency range which causes interference. The relative proportion of the subtraction signal (7) for small luminance signal levels is greater than for larger luminance signal levels. Further, the level of the subtraction signal (7) can be varied in dependence on the level of the chrominance signal (C) and/or the FM signal (FM).
