Zusammenfassung:	Process for producing slag useful in the construction industry from sewage sludge comprises drying the sewage sludge in a convection drier (5), comminuting in a mill (8) and gasifying in a melting cyclone (2) with O2 or O2-enriched air. The slag that is formed is sepd. from fuel gas in a lower furnace (3) of the melting cyclone (2). The fuel gas is supplied to the combustion chamber (4) of the convection drier (5), to which air and recycled vapour of the drier are also supplied. Combustion gas formed in the combustion chamber is supplied to the drier as heat transfer medium. Dust-contg. vapour formed in the drier is treated in a dust filter (6) and, after passing through a fan, part of the vapour is returned to the combustion chamber, the excess being disposed of in a thermal after-burner (9) with regenerative use of waste heat.
