Zusammenfassung:	The device has a base element (11), with a piston (12) which can reciprocate in a cylinder (13). The cylinder is open at one end (15), and is closed at the other end (14). One end (17) of the piston projects from the open nd of the cylinder, and lies directly or indirectly against the chain which is to be tensioned. The other end of the piston is supported from the closed end of the cylinder by mechanical/hydraulic tensioning equipment. Damping equipment which is tensioned by pressure is located between the tensioning equipment and the closed end of the cylinder.
