The invention pertains to a corundum porcelain composition that contains 60 to 94 wt.% component A and 6 to 40 wt.% component B and that is characterized in that component A contains 0 to 70 wt.% alumina, 20 to 70 wt.% clay body, 10 to 50 wt.% glass former and 0 to 30 wt.% quartz and component B consists of comminuted porcelain fragments, that chemical analysis of the mixture of components A and B yields 20 to 75 wt.% SiO2, 15 to 80 wt.% Al2O3 and 2 to 10 wt.% flux from the group K2O, Na2O, FeO, MgO, Li2O, BaO, SrO, ZnO and fluoride, and that the comminuted porcelain fragments have a mean particle size between 25 and 800 mu m. The invention also pertains to a method for preparing a corundum porcelain composition, its use and sintered compacts of corundum porcelain.
