Zusammenfassung: | The steel involved is of the metastable austenitic type which acquires requisite hardness along the cutting edge during the punch-riveting process. Its shaft deforms to requirement in the riveting operation. Metastability is obtained by the addition of pref. 13% Mn, and 13% Cr is added to give the required corrosion resistance, specifically using steel X35Cr-Mn 1310. The rivet is produced by machining or again by pressing in warm or half-warm state. The rivet has a countersunk head (1) and shaft (2) whose countersunk (4) endface stands at an angle to the rivet axis to produce the cutting edge (5). Thus in the riveting procedure, the edge cuts through the first sheet (6) and proceeds into the second sheet (7) during which the shaft (3) is duly expanded so as to produce the undercut (SH) responsible for the strength of the join. |
